Rapid Assessment Report: Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes

The southern provinces of Turkey were shaken by two massive earthquakes 9 hours apart on Monday, February 6, 2023. As of March 16, 2023, more than 48,000 people have been killed and 2.7 million people have fled the disaster area. Material damage is estimated to exceed 100 billion dollars.

In order to identify the impact of the disaster based on data, Genç İşi Kooperatif launched a research study on cooperatives in the region.

The Rapid Assessment Report documents how cooperatives in the earthquake zone were affected by the disaster and their short, medium and long-term needs. The research includes the results of a survey of 38 cooperatives and interviews with 8 organizations between 6-15 March 2023.

The report identifies the needs and key areas of intervention for rebuilding the cooperative economy. The report is a call for collaboration among all stakeholders to rebuild the cooperative economy in the region.
